JONATHAN CHAPLINE

Jonathan Chapline (b. 1987) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Blurring the boundaries between rendered and painted, digital and analog, flat and sculptural, Chapline's luminescent works in painting and sculpture draw on and represent classical still life motifs but with a vibrant, contemporary twist. His works are also heavily influenced by the aesthetics of early computer-generated imagery and computer-appropriated images. Employing techniques such as the use of color gradients to represent spatial relationships between forms, it's often difficult to distinguish what is painting and what is sculpture when it comes to Chapline's work. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Chapline's work belongs in the collections of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami, X Museum in Beijing and K11 Art Foundation in Hong Kong. The artist has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Basel, and London, among other cities. He has recently exhibited at Art Basel in Miami, The Hole Gallery in Los Angeles and Nanzuka Underground in Tokyo.
