Swiss artist Claudia Comte (born 1983, Lausanne)
is known for her sculptural installations in wood,
marble and bronze and for her large-scale murals
with geometric patterns and colour blocks. Comte
studied at the École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne,
graduating in 2007 with a BA in Fine Arts and a Master of Art in Science of Education in 2010 from the HEP Visual Arts in Lausanne.
In the
course of her studies, she developed the preference
for geometric shapes and patterns that is still reflected in her work today. She has won many prizes
for her work, including the Swiss Art Award and the Alexander Clavel Foundation's prize.
Her works have already been shown in numerous
museums, including the Museum of Contemporary
Art in Cleveland, the Castello di Rivoli in Turin and the Kunstmuseum Luzern. Her installation Waves, Cacti
and Sunsets is currently presented as a Public Art
Project on the facade of the Globus department
store in Basel.
Claudia Comte created her first cactus sculpture
with the aid of a chainsaw while still a student. She
has always been fascinated by the dystopian nature
of cacti and sees them as an aesthetic warning
symbol for an environment that has become too hot
for humans.
