Hank Willis Thomas’s training as a photographer has made him keenly interested in the idea of ‘perspective’ as a conceptual artist, and in how materials can be used to affect what and how the viewer sees. He applies this approach to the perspective of black and white, employing the transient quality of lenticular print to express the illusory aspect between the two colours.
He incorporates text as a direct means of communication between himself and the viewer. The work is also expressed in monochrome. As the viewer passes in front of the material, the colour and the text move in gradients of black and white.
