In Márcia Falcão’s Malandra Não Para XXVIII (2025), the pictorial and conceptual questions in the artist’s practice lead to an exploration of spatial pauses, voids, and empty space. Here, the figure expands and contracts under the weight of its own presence, set against the ethereal atmosphere of the background. Falcão extrapolates the anatomy of bodies—multiplying limbs and heads—as an act of freedom, in which such alterations integrate seamlessly into a visual reality that feels imposing, monumental, and fragmentary. In doing so, the painting asserts a body that refuses erasure, insisting on its complexity and multiplicity.
