Provenance: Directly from the artist

Born in 1982, Novo is a Korean artist based in Seoul, Korea who persistently experiments with planes of objects, drenched in vibrant colors saturated with his own memories. He traverses the streets of downtown Tokyo and the back alleys of Los Angeles, gathering fragments of culture that resonate with him, from miniatures to post office boxes from foreign lands. These objects are presented against a backdrop in a manner that negates visual hierarchy and emphasizes frontality.

The artist described the process of producing his recent work <Untitled>, as one of the most enjoyable experiences he has had working in recent years. In this particular work, the universally recognizable character, Charlie Brown, from the famed comic strip “Peanuts” is the focus of the painting.

For Novo, these so-called characters or trophies morph into lively sculptures that immortalize a happy moment in time. By doing so, he transforms and the ordinary and outdated into the extraordinary and cherished memory.

His wide range of collaborations with choreography scene design and various brands such as Nike, Golden Goose, and Helinox reflect his passion for challenging existing ideas and developing conversations with the audience.
