Richard Kellett, born 1982 in England, is an emerging artist whose masterly use of colour and command of gesture combine in his provocatively beautiful oil paintings. The first of a series in progress, “Untitled”, 2025, could almost be a theatre for spring, a green romance played out on a large linen stage. The canvas is a reawakening land, where celestial light fuels and illuminates nature’s performance. Opaque colours dash across the surface, in places tumbling over each other in a tussle for space. Translucent pigments almost disappear in areas of shade, while the red earth background, which is visible in parts, suggests some of this season’s cast are yet to arrive.
