Thea Altmann combines painting, textile art, and typography to create a distinctive visual language. After years in costume and fashion design and studying art, she developed a poetic, material-conscious practice that transfers textile techniques into the context of contemporary art. Her works range from large-format canvases to textile mixed media pieces. The embroidery shown here is part of a series of textile word images in which Altmann inscribes short sentences into the material as concentrated moments of doubt and questioning. The embroidered sentence is condensed onto cotton into a fragile yet decisive gesture. The handiwork remains visible: unevenness, threads, texture—everything becomes part of a statement that does not negate self-doubt, but rather honours it as productive openness.
