Gilles Bensimon

Gilles Bensimon is a French photographer known worldwide for his work photographing some of the world's most prominent figures in the fashion industry, he lives and works in New York. Bensimon was creative director and head photographer of Elle Magazine for 20 years, and is currently an active commercial, fashion, and editorial photographer. In many of his more recent and personal works, Bensimon explores subject matter through creating scenes of objects within his frame, an approach in which Bensimon works with objects as a means to question their subtexts, joining together found pieces or natural subject matter in a method similar to assemblage. In his series of images focusing on photographing florals submerged in water, an expressive and impressionistic tone characteristic of Bensimons more abstract images is present. His works take the concept of the still-life and play with light and elements of color and movement to create dynamic compositions.
