Stefan Szczesny, born in Munich, rose to international prominence in the 1980s as a defining figure of the “Neue Wilden” movement. After early abstract explorations, his artistic journey through Paris and Florence – and his engagement with Delacroix and the Renaissance – led him towards a sensuous, colour‑rich figurative language. His works celebrate beauty, harmony and Mediterranean joie de vivre – a consciously life‑affirming counterpoint to sombre social critique. Szczesny now lives and works in Saint‑Tropez. A work from his “Rendezvous” series at Galerie Mond exemplifies this characteristic opulence: alongside vibrant colours and flowing lines, there are floral and figurative elements that blend together in a warm, radiant composition. The sculpture evokes a sensuous moment of encounter, captured in time – light, shimmering and full of Mediterranean poetry.
